The Vancouver Classic Guitar Society proudly presents internationally acclaimed Ukrainian classical guitarist Marko Topchii, winner of the prestigious 2023 Guitar Foundation of America (GFA) International Concert Artist Competition and so many more. With 115 international competition awards—including an astonishing 55 first-place prizes—Marko is among the most decorated classical guitarists of all time. Born into a family of musicians in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1991, Marko began playing guitar at the age of four. He pursued rigorous studies at leading conservatories in Ukraine, Switzerland, and the United States, including mentorship under Judicaël Perroy at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Haute École de Musique de Genève. Along the way, he began winning international competitions…and winning and winning!
His remarkable journey has positioned him as a sought-after soloist, frequently performing with major orchestras and premiering over 15 concertos for guitar and orchestra. His breathtaking virtuosity and deeply expressive musicianship have earned him performances at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall (New York), Salle Cortot (Paris), and Yamaha Ginza Hall (Tokyo).
Marko’s discography includes several solo albums recorded under legendary classical music labels, Naxos and Contrastes. His most recent Naxos recording was released in Spring 2024 as part of the prestigious Guitar Foundation of America’s Laureate Series.
