Vancouver's finest double bill: Alec Pearson and Luis Angel Medina, Jan. 25th, 2025 at VAM
The Vancouver Classic Guitar Society invites you to join us as two of Vancouver’s most influential classical guitarists, Alec Pearson and Luis Angel Medina, take the stage for Vancouver’s Finest, our annual celebration of our vibrant music community on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, 7 pm, at Vancouver Academy of Music. Alec and Luis have done so much to support and promote classical guitar learning and performance in Vancouver and B.C. This concert recognizes their volunteer and teaching contributions and showcases their classical guitar talent. Come early at 6:15 pm and enjoy pre-concert performances by the VAM Youth Guitar Ensemble co-directed by Allec and Luis.
Alec Pearson is an outstanding composer and performer, a gifted instructor at UBC and Vancouver Academy of Music, the founder of the Okanagan Guitar Festival, and the president and artistic director of the Vancouver Classic Guitar Society. With a career that has taken him to stages in Canada, Spain, Colombia, Greece, and the U.S., Alec inspires with his artistry, musical collaborations and total dedication to classical guitar.
Luis Medina, an exceptional guitarist and educator, is the founder of the Vancouver Classical Guitar Festival and the VCGS Guitar Ensemble. His performances have spanned North America, Europe, and Asia, and he currently inspires a new generation of guitarists as an instructor at his alma mater Capilano University in North Vancouver. He’s currently pursuing his doctorate at the University of Toronto.with renowned Canadian classical guitarist Jeffrey McFadden.
Their concert program is still being finalized but you can be sure Alec will be premiering an original composition and collaborating in a guitar-flute duet with Bernard Blary. Luis will play selections from his upcoming CD, Heritages, including an original work dedicated to him by Julio César Oliva, and Mauro Giuliani’s Rossiniana.
