VCGS Guitar Ensemble Concert

What has the VCGS Guitar Ensemble been working on this fall?

Come find out and enjoy an afternoon with our VCGS Guitar Ensemble on Sunday, December 1st at 2:00 pm. They’ll be playing a program ranging from classical to tango to Latin rhythms. Members of the ensemble will also perform solo and in duos, trios and a quartet.

Our ensemble is directed this season by Michael Kolk, one of Canada’s finest classical guitarists. Find out more about Michael at Michael Kolk - Classical Guitarist

Michael Kolk, Ensemble Director

Michael Kolk is a highly accomplished Canadian classical guitarist, known for his performances across North America and Europe as a soloist and member of the HK Guitar Duo with Drew Henderson. The duo toured Saskatchewan and the Yukon in 2017/18, followed by a concert tour with violinist Laurence Kayaleh in 2018. Kolk has performed with major orchestras, including the Toronto Philharmonia and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and worked with opera companies like the Canadian Opera Company.

As a recording artist, Kolk has released nine albums across various labels, including solo works, duo collaborations, and recordings of underrepresented and contemporary compositions. He has also earned numerous top prizes in guitar competitions. Kolk holds an ARCT diploma and a Master's in guitar performance from the University of Toronto. Since relocating to Vancouver in 2022, he teaches at Vancouver Community College and from his home studio.
