Itamar Erez, a master of guitar and piano with an international reputation for jazz and world music, directs the ensemble this season. The VCGS Guitar Ensemble will play a program ranging from Bartok and Bizet to B.C.’s own Celso Machado.
Itamar Erez, an internationally acclaimed composer and guitarist known for blending Middle Eastern music, jazz, and flamenco, has been honored with the 2014 ACUM Prize and the 2014 Landau Prize for his contributions to jazz.
He has released multiple CDs, including collaborative works like "New Dawn" with Yshai Afterman and "Mi Alegria" featuring notable guests, and performed globally in prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera, showcasing his unique musical approach. Itamar performs internationally and educates through workshops and masterclasses, sharing his innovative music and guitar-playing techniques.
Currently, he is developing new music, teaches at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School Of Music, and has published “Exercises & Etudes, an Advanced Method for the Fingerstyle Guitarist” in March 2016.
