Kaslo Guitar Fest 2019 & 19th century guitars

This year the VCGS made an effort to support the Kaslo Guitar Fest. The Kaslo guitar fest is an annual event that attracts participants from across North America. Participants vary from youth, to adult amateurs, to young professionals and university students. Past festival participants have gone on to win competitions and gain acceptance at some of the most prestigious music schools.

Being featured in a small town, the Kaslo guitar fest thrives in its connection to the local community. Every year local restaurants and shop owners give a warm welcome to the influx of traveling musicians. Local billets help make the week long stay in the little mountain town more comfortable, friendly and affordable for students.

It was really fun! And really BUSY! There was always something going on — workshops, master classes, private lessons, orchestra rehearsals — there was always something for us to do. We worked SO hard, and we had a great time!

During the day, participants work in ensembles with a diverse faculty of highly established artists. They take masterclasses, privates lessons, workshops and play together in a large guitar orchestra. In the evenings, they socialize and participate in, or attend concerts. The diversity of events and level of involvement with the faculty is a truly unique aspect of the kaslo guitar festival. We hope that this event will continue for many years.

One of the highlights of the festival was recorded on camera this year as Roger Bruderlin, a B.C. based collector of early music instruments, returned for his 2nd year at Kaslo. This time Roger brought with him 4 spectacular guitars from the mid 1800’s. We hope you enjoy these videos (below).
