Trio Tangere opens our 2024-25 season with the magical simpatico of guitar and violin

Prepare to be captivated by the extraordinary sounds of Canadian ensemble Trio Tangere, as they open the Vancouver Classic Guitar Society’s 2024-25 concert season on Saturday, October 12th, 7 pm at Pyatt Hall and via livestream.  Known for their uncommon instrumentation of dual guitars and a violin, Trio Tangere brings a fresh, dynamic energy to the stage, delighting audiences with their magical simpatico and impeccable musicianship.  Tickets and season subscriptions are available now at www.vancouverguitar.org

Comprised of three of Canada’s most distinguished musicians—Marc Djokic on violin, alongside Jérôme Ducharme and Louis Trépanier on guitars—Trio Tangere was formed more than a decade ago.  Louis fell in love with the incredible Brazilian guitar-violin trio started by the Assad brothers with violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg and set out to create that winning combination of instruments with Trio Tangere.

Both Louis and  Jérôme are award-winning, virtuoso guitarists who have already made their mark as part of the celebrated Canadian Guitar Quartet.  The very accomplished violinist Marc Djokic is concertmaster of the Orchestre classique de Montréal, a Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer recipient, Prix Opus laureate and winner of the 2020 ECMA Classical Recording of the Year.

The Trio’s repertoire includes guitar duets and violin solos as well ensemble works spanning a wide array of musical styles. Their Vancouver concert will feature Astor Piazolla’s Fuga y misterioso, a commissioned piece by Victoria’s own Christine Donkin. plus works by Albéniz, Granados and Clarice Assad.

This striking mix of instruments, repertoire and the ensemble’s synergy, has earned them critical acclaim, including a glowing review from Wholenote Magazine, which praised their performance with a “standing ovation” noting that “Trio Tangere sparkles!”

The concert starts at 7 pm, with a pre-concert performance of up-and-coming guitarists at 6:15 pm so come early.  The concert is at Pyatt Hall, 843 Seymour Street, in the VSO School of Music, Vancouver.

Tickets are $45 General Admission, $37 Senior/Student, $15 Youth (18 and under) and livestream $20.  VCGS members save up to 25% with a season subscription and enjoy a 15% discount on single tickets.   Get tickets and subscriptions at www.vancouverguitar.org
